One million Covishield vaccines arrived in Yangon, Myanmar late on Saturday 9 October. The vaccines were donated to Myanmar by the Indian government.
Covishield is a licensed version of the UK’s AstraZenica covid vaccine manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
This latest batch adds to the 2m doses of Covishield vaccines already supplied. In addition, Myanmar has so far received 14m Sinopharm and 2m Sinovac vaccines from China.
To date, over 470,000 people have been infected with the covid virus in Myanmar, with 18,100 recorded deaths.
